Eat one's heart out

 

（因?qū)δ橙嘶蚰呈滤嫦Ｍ粫?huì)實(shí)現(xiàn)而）極度傷心 

 

to feel very unhappy,especially because you want sb/sth you cannot have

 

e.g.：

 

I feel just awful for Mary—she's been eating her heart out ever since she found out she was rejected by her top-choice school.
我為Mary感到糟心，自從她被首  選學(xué)校所拒后，她就一直非常的傷心。

 

bleeding heart

過(guò)于善良的人；濫好人

（disapproving）：a person who is too kind and sympathetic towards people that other people think do not deserve kindness

 

e.g.：

 

He only voted for the tax increase because he's a bleeding heart.He really believes all of that extra money is going to help the homeless.

他僅投票給那些支持稅費(fèi)增加的人，因?yàn)樗彩莻€(gè)慈悲心腸，他始終相信這些錢都確確實(shí)實(shí)用在了幫助無(wú)家可歸的人身上。

 

Eat your words

 

 收回前言，承認(rèn)說(shuō)錯(cuò)

to admit that what you said was wrong

（可不是食言哦，食言=break one’s promise）

 

e.g.：

 

Sorry,I eat my words.

 

對(duì)不起，我收回我說(shuō)的話。

 

I could eat a horse

 

我餓極了

 

used to say that you are very hungry

 

e.g.：

 

You know what. I'm so hungry that I could eat a horse.

 

你造嗎？我快餓死了。

 

Eat like a horse 

 

吃得很多 

 

to eat a lot

 

 

e.g.：

 

 

She may be thin,but she eats like a horse.

 

她或許是瘦了點(diǎn)，但吃得卻很多。

 

 

 

What’s eating him? 

 

他為何苦惱？

 

e.g.：

 

- What's eating you?
- I don't know how to improve my English! What can I do?
- 你怎么了？有什么煩心事嗎？- 我不知道怎么提高的英文！我該怎么辦？

 

As deaf as a post 

 

完全聽(tīng)不到，或者部分失聰

 

e.g.：

 

 

I hope Grandpa wears his hearing aid to dinner tonight because he's as deaf as a post without it.
希望爺爺能在晚飯時(shí)候帶上助聽(tīng)器，因?yàn)樗呀?jīng)要聾了。

 

 

Butter up 

 

對(duì)別人好，奉承別人

 

to flatter someone; to treat someone especially nicely in hopes of receiving special favors.

 

e.g.：

 

I tried to butter up my father by mowing the lawn before I asked to borrow the car.

我想著通過(guò)修剪草坪來(lái)討好我爸，讓他把車借我開(kāi)兩天。

 

chew someone out 

 

 斥責(zé)，責(zé)備，懲治某人

To scold or address one harshly or angrily.

 

 

e.g.：

 

My father would chew me out,if he found that I didn't finish my homework before the decline.

如果被我爸發(fā)現(xiàn)我么有按時(shí)完成作業(yè)，他會(huì)責(zé)備我的。
The boss is totally going to chew us out if he hears that we lost that big client.

 

老板要是知道我們跟丟了這個(gè)大客戶，一定會(huì)狠狠地斥責(zé)我們的。

 

 

Be out of the picture 

 

 不再是...情景的一部分（不再相關(guān)）

To no longer be a part of a situation. (Note that this absence can be caused by death.)

e.g.：

 

 

I overheard some of the employees at George's funeral saying that they can take over the company now that he is out of the picture! How tasteless!
我無(wú)意中聽(tīng)到一些員工在George的葬禮上說(shuō)道，他們可以接管公司了因?yàn)樗呀?jīng)不在。太無(wú)趣了也。
Funeral 葬禮tasteless 無(wú)味，無(wú)趣take over 接管，管理overhear 指的是無(wú)意中聽(tīng)

 

I'm going to study in the library, so that all of the distractions in my room are out of the picture.

 

為了不再讓我房間里的東西使我分心，我要去圖書館

在等待的日子里，刻苦讀書。 每天都會(huì)做的那點(diǎn)習(xí)慣成自然的事，也可能是逆風(fēng)翻盤的事。 很多當(dāng)初看起來(lái)沒(méi)啥意義挺乏味的事兒，安安靜靜做了很久，最終有了好結(jié)果 —— 這可能就是“堅(jiān)持”帶給人的驚喜。
